OPPSAL IF - A BRIEF HISTORY

Oppsal Idrettsforening was established in 1912 as Bryn Atletklubb. As well as football, they also have sections for handball, basketball, skiing and orienteering. The men's association football team currently compete in the 3. divisjon, the fourth tier of the Norwegian football league system, after being relegated from the 2019 2. division. They'd alternated between the two divisions leading up to that latest relegation. They have a number of teams of all ages and genders. Their women's team play in a regional Division 4, which sits at the 5th tier of women's football in Norway.

MY VISIT

From the game at Valerenga, it was 15 minutes walk to the Metro stop to take me into Oslo. I was thinking it would probably be a sober day tomorrow, and I'd not been to many bars yet. For that reason, I decided to visit a couple tonight and also consider food. Brygg in Oslo came up trumps. In fact, I was going to come here earlier, but I went for an easier, more alcoholic and far more expensive option. Either way, I was here now, and it was an incredible place. There was a large cider bar with around 100 different ciders. I went for a Bristol Fashion from Tall Ship, which was exceptional. As good and as dry as anything in England, this was from Sandefjord, down in the far south of Norway. I had a second can, Kingston Black for the same price, all great. I could have stayed in there all night, but the food options were limited. Instead, I had a wander around and did consider going back before settling on a burrito place. The chips were lovely and fresh, the burrito tasty but not as hot, and the Solo drink decent. All for £17. It was 8 minutes wait for the 31 bus back to the room. I note that everything is done on honesty, with no gates, nor checking on or off of buses or trains, nor inspectors. I've played an honest game, but I could have got the whole weekend's travel free, were I so inclined.

I was back at my room just before 11. I decided to do my blog in the morning. I watched YouTube for a bit before going to sleep. I woke up around 6.30 and stayed in bed for half an hour before getting up and having a shower. I got both of my blogs up whilst continuing to watch videos and having a breakfast of grapes. I also purchased my ticket for the Grorud IL game, just £3.67. I was glad to be able to check in to my RyanAir flight tomorrow morning whilst in my room, as I had my laptop as backup if needed. As it happened, it was fairly OK. I left a few minutes earlier than intended and saw a bus zoom past just as I came up to the stop. I only had 8 minutes to wait for the next one and was on schedule. There were a fair few people there by the time the bus came, which took me to the National Theatre. After a few false turns, I got to the platform I needed for the tram. It was yet another system that trumps the underground in that you can still access the Internet underground.
It was whilst on tram that I discovered that game one of the day had been called off, due to Grei 2 not being able to raise a team. I initially planned to go and have a look at the ground anyway, but the Norwegian FA site comes up trumps again. There's just enough time to get to Oppsal v OSI in the Women's 4th Division. I check that I can get to the main game of the day at 3 PM. It is tight but workable, so I get off the tram and take a two-bus journey. First, the 23 to Teisenkrysset. By coincidence, we go past the Intility Arena, where I spent last night. A change of stop gets me to where I need to be to get the 76 to Mortonsud. This is present and correct and so after dropping me near a school, I have a nice walk through the woods to the ground. I arrive just as the game starts, and it seems a nice, relaxing place to watch a game.

It was 6th v 9th in a table of ten teams. The hosts were in mixed form; last time out, they had lost 2-0 to Gamle Oslo. OSI had lost their last three, including a 3-2 loss in the last game to Baerum. Oppsal took the lead after ten minutes, a shot into the top of the net from just inside the area. They double their lead on 19 minutes, the #9 following up from a few yards out after a keeper spill. A thunderstorm sounds like it's brewing in the background, not great when the ground is completely uncovered. I took shelter under a building overhang as the rain briefly increased its severity. Just before half time, a cross from the right and a header made it 3-0 to the hosts. It was a quick eight-minute halftime before we got going again. On 55 minutes, it's 4-0, a lob over the keeper from the edge of the area. The hosts make it 5-0 on 63 after the keeper is rounded and the ball is slotted into the empty net. A similar goal makes it 7-0 a couple of minutes later. OSI then had a good spell, reducing the arrears with a good long-range strike on 74 minutes.

THE GROUND

TRASOP KUNSTGRESS is part of a large sports complex with multiple pitches. The main football and athletics ground is pleasant, set amongst woodland. As there is not much width to the track, views from the main viewing side are good. This includes some steps of terracing, a stand holding around 150 and some flat standing. There is very little cover, only available down one end of the pitch under a building overhang. It's well served by buses and has plenty of parking too.
