Wycombe actually played the first game at Huddersfield's brand new McAlpine Stadium and spoilt their party with a 1-0 victory. Simin Garner was the man who did the damage, back in 1994. The stadium looked really new and modern for it's time, and many have built very similar stadiums or lent from it's design. However, that wasn't my first visit there, I had to wait another 8 years to see a game there.

It was November 2002 and I travelled up on the supporters coach to see a dull 0-0 draw. The only real point of note was Danny Senda's sending off, supposedly for retaliation, but it was only a light push. My mate Paul got taken out by the police for foul and abusive language, whilst I just stood there wondering what planet the referee was on! This was my only visit, and the lack of goals was summed up by the fact that our forwards hadn't scored a goal from open play since the first game of the season. The home leg of this was 0-0 too, boring, but we would take that now, having lost 6-0 both home and away against the Terriers in recent years. Luckily I was on holiday for the game up at Huddersfield.

THE MCALPINE STADIUM is a smart modern stadium with some interesting designs, which look innovative today, even with the stadium at 18 years old. The stadium has a capacity of 24,500. Visiting fans get one end of the stadium where up to 4,000 people can be housed. As for pubs, I have not tried any, but there are a few around if you are prepared to walk, and the town centre is 20 minutes walk away.
