Birmingham City 2-1 Reading
FA Cup 4th Round Replay
My one and only visit to Birmingham City came in January 2006 for the FA Cup game against Reading. I was trying to do a game in every round of the FA Cup, and as my brother was up in Birmingham at Uni and so this was an ideal opportunity to visit him and see a game at the same time. I pre booked tickets in the Olympic Gallery (basically a small upper tier behind the goal). I drove up to Birmingham, parked at my brothers campus and then he gave us both a lift to the game.
It was a pretty decent game. Birmingham had 14 players missing and made 6 changes from the previous weekend's Premiership game. With Birmingham hovering around mid table and Reading runaway leaders, it was expected to be a close game and that proved to be the case. The game was a replay after the 2 teams drew in Berkshire and Birmingham took the lead after having a good spell of early pressure, Mikkael Forsell was the man who got the goal. Reading started to get into the game more then and were rewarded with a goal from Stephen Hunt, just after half time. They had chances to get the winner, but it was Birmingham who soaked up the pressure and eventually got the winner through Julian Gray.
ST ANDREWS has been fully redeveloped on 3 sides to comply with the all seater requirement of the Premiership and it is now all all seater stadium with only the old Main Stand remaining. The ground is walkable from the City Centre and there are a couple of pubs and the usual assortment of burger vans scattered around the area of the ground.
